Period Property Renovation
Large Renovation of 17th Century Property in Drayton
This large renovation project ran in tandem with a new 5 bedroom chalet bungalow we built on the same land of which you can see in its own case study.
The original property was an old 17th century cottage situated in the historic conservation area of Drayton that used to be called "The Coal House" as it was the house that fronted an old coal yard which we acquired for the development.
We managed to get planning permission after quite a battle to change the very small two bedroom building in to a high end 4 bedroom house, the only parts of the existing property that we were able to keep were the front and side elevations so for all intensive purposes this was a new build.
The new property consists of a large kitchen and dining room to the rear and two living areas at the front on the ground floor, the first floor offers 3 good size bedrooms and a family bathroom with the 4th large master bedroom with en-suite and walk-in wardrobe found in the new loft area.
We were very conscious to make sure a lot of the old features were retained during the build so all of the old Oak beams and roof rafters were saved and reused in the new kitchen area to create the details in the kitchen roof and around the new gas fired AGA.
The old inglenook fire place was restored and a new log burner installed in the living room and the existing rear oak frame wall in the front study area was carefully retained.
This particular development will always be one of our most enjoyable as getting to build two properties at the same time of completely different specifications and polar opposite styles showed the complete flexibility of our teams skills.
